Ginger Beer for Soldier Bob

The Wrens received a message from a soldier from the Crimean War:

Bob and his soldiers were suffering from tummy aches and needed
us to make something to help them feel better.

What would Mary Seacole do?

We decided to make them some ginger beer!

First we needed to grate the ginger root very carefully:

Next we added some sugar:

More grating! This time it was the lemons:

Everyone enjoyed giving the mixture a good bash!

We squeezed the juice out of the lemons too:

Time to pour in some soda water:

Give it all a good stir and leave for 10 minutes:

We all tasted it when it was ready:

Lots of us really enjoyed it and thought it might help the soldiers feel better.

Luke wasn't too sure at first, but then asked for more!

Josh's was gone in seconds!

We have written out the instructions needed to make this delicious drink in our writing books.

Next time you are in Wrens' class please come and read them!

Time travelling Wrens

Today the Wrens travelled back in time to find out about someone famous from the past.

Would like to go through the time portal with us!
Off we go!
Looking for clues...

Time to share all the evidence - What are we going to be learning about?!

"I think it's a king in the bed and Mary is beside him looking after him."

We had to smell some of the clues.  Louis spotted this was mint.  Hannah said, "This was kind of a medicine. You would give it to someone to make them feel better."

Joshua thought this might be ginger...like crumbs from a biscuit."
Louis wasn't too sure about the smell of it though!

Sharing our ideas and writing them down.

What country has a flag that looks like that? Harry told us that
this is the Jamaican flag.

Does this name mean anything? Yes it does - it's Mary Seacole!

The Wrens worked as a team, using their clever brains to delve into the past.

Well done Wrens!
